Museum Complex

  • Main Building

    The museum Main Building is located behind the Courthouse, on Courthouse Square, in Laporte, Pa. This building contains records and artifacts relevant to Sullivan and surrounding counties.

  • Baldwin House

    The BALDWIN HOUSE and gardens are located across Meylert Street from the Museum main building. Built in the 1850s, this is one of the oldest houses in Laporte. It is now a house museum illustrating life in Sullivan County from 1850 - 1880. It is open the same hours as the Museum for guided tours.

  • The Barn

    In 2004 the Society constructed the Barn to house its extensive collection of large historical objects associated with the industry and leisure activities of the county.

  • Celestia

    Celestia is a religious community founded in the 1850s by millennialists. In the 1860s Peter Armstrong, the community's founder, deeded the land to God, but God paid no taxes and the land was put up for sale by the county. The Armstrong family repurchased the land at a tax sale in the 1870s. By the time Peter Armstrong died in 1887 the community had mostly been abandoned.

  • The Wagon Shed

    The Shed is an ongoing project that will house large pieces of historic machinery. This building is not currently open to the public.
